Members of this group are proud and honoured to have been given permission to form C Troop of the 9th Memorial United States Cavalry in this country.
The troop is in its infancy at the present moment but we are certain that it will grow with time.
From HQ Troop Arizona USA
“August 13, 1866 (Louisiana) Gen. Phillip Sheridan, commander of the Military Division of the Gulf, was authorized to raise one regiment of "coloured" cavalry that was to be designated the 9th Regiment, pursuant to General Order 56 of August 1, 1866.
A recruiting office was established in New Orleans, Louisiana and later that fall, a second office was opened in Louisville, Kentucky.
Of the original recruits, the majority came from these two states and were veterans of the Civil War. Enlistment was for five years, with recruits receiving thirteen dollars a month, plus room, board, and clothing.” ( William McCurtis RSM 9th Mem. Cav. See links page)
The main purpose of this organization was, and is, to learn all we can about these men and the people they were associated with.
Our main goal: get this knowledge to the general public and bring attention to the courage, sacrifice, bravery, loyalty, and devotion to duty of these men, and to teach our children about those who struggled, bled, and died to bring civilization to our western frontier - the true history of the West.
(William McCurtis RSM 9th Mem. Cav.)
Currently the troop (based in Lancashire) has a Captain, Quartermaster, 1st Lt, 2nd Lt and Civilian Scout.
We are currently recruiting and urgently require NCOs and Troopers.
